Tir-o-Baad Bracelet

  • Richmond Green Sports Centre and Park - 1300 Elgin Mills Rd E, Richmond Hill, ON L4S 1M5

According to ancient Zoroastrian tradition, Tir-o-Baad bracelets are worn on the day of Tir in the month of Tir—coinciding with the Tirgan Festival, observed on the 13th of Tir (July 1st) in the Zoroastrian calendar and the 10th of Tir in the solar calendar. This practice honors the legendary self-sacrifice of Arash Kamangir (Arash the Archer), a symbol of courage and devotion.

These bracelets are made of fine silk, woven with seven colors, symbolizing the rainbow.

Then, on the 19th of Tir (July 10th) in the solar calendar (which is called Baad, meaning "wind", in the Zoroastrian calendar), the bracelet is removed and released into the wind or flowing water, along with good wishes and prayers.

During the ritual of removing the Tir-o-Baad bracelets, the following verse is recited:
Tir go, Baad come
Sorrow go, Joy come
Pain go, Blessings come
Pearl clusters come
